A dialogue between art, history and craftsmanship

In the summer of 2024, the staircase in the ladies’ wing of the main building at Hafslund Manor was given new life through a site-specific art installation by the renowned Norwegian ceramicist Marit Tingleff.

In her work, Tingleff drew inspiration from Hafslund’s close connection to Herrebøe faience, as well as from the landscape surrounding the manor: the water, the forest, and the slow interplay between nature and human hand.

The work is a comprehensive commissioned piece, and is today the largest permanent installation of Marit Tingleff’s works. It complements the ladies’ cabinet’s porcelain and Herrebøe collection, and stands in beautiful dialogue with the 18th-century Herrebøe wallpapers that surround the room. The art installation adds a new rhythm and weight to the staircase—a place where the eye can rest, and history can continue to tell its own story.

Marit Tingleff’s works are also represented in the collection of the National Museum, and we are proud to give her art a permanent place in Hafslund Manor’s living cultural heritage.

We extend our warmest thanks to Marit Tingleff for a remarkably beautiful and significant work of art.
