Our chefs serve seasonal Christmas food based on local ingredients, and the manor’s own butler handpicks wines for the evening’s meal. The meals can be enjoyed in the cozy and atmospheric Kornmagasinet, or in the Great Hall, where chandeliers, candelabras, and meticulous table settings give the evening a solemn and inviting feel. Here, the damask napkins are hand-rolled 13 times, and the tables are set with crystal and polished silver, which lifts the meal into a grand, stately experience.
This hospitality has deep roots. In the 18th century, the Christmas parties at Hafslund Manor were known far beyond its own walls. During the time of the Collett–Elieson couple, the manor was filled with relatives and guests from the upper social classes – and the celebrations could last for several days. The parties were characterized by social gatherings, games, role-playing, and improvisational theater, where guests actively participated in both entertainment, table setting, and decorating. The centerpieces created for the meals were later assessed with both humor and boldness. The atmosphere was informal, lively, and generous, but always within refined boundaries.
Today, we carry forward parts of this heritage. The main house is still decorated with traditional Christmas decorations: a beautiful Christmas tree in the Great Hall and in the Hall, wreaths on the doors, and decor that has been used at the manor for generations. In this way, we preserve some of the warm and inclusive atmosphere that has characterized Christmas celebrations at Hafslund for centuries – and which today creates the setting for corporate Christmas events with us.
