Before our guests are allowed into the Knights’ Hall in the venerable Main Building, hours of meticulous preparation lie behind. The Knights’ Hall, once referred to as Norway’s finest ballroom before the Royal Palace was completed, still carries a very special atmosphere. The historical grandeur is a commitment – and therefore no detail is left to chance.
Our colleagues measure the distance between the charger plates with precision, so that the table setting achieves a perfect expression. Glassware and cutlery are always handled with gloves, to avoid fingerprints and ensure the elegant finish that guests notice when they sit down at the table.
One of the most time-consuming and beautiful details is the napkins. In keeping with tradition, the damask napkins are rolled by hand, not once, but a full 13 times, before they are folded and placed on the table. It’s a small detail that can almost go unnoticed, but at the same time carries with it a sense of history and craftsmanship that elevates the experience.
The preparations for a dinner or an event in the Knights’ Hall are therefore about more than practical tasks. It is a ceremony in itself – a tribute to the house, the history, and the guests who will soon fill the room. When the doors finally open, everything is in place for the experience to feel both grand and personal.
Enjoy your meal!
